Boating On The Delaware River
The Delaware River flows 282 miles from New York to the Delaware Bay. It is the longest free-flowing (undammed) river in the Eastern US and offers numerous recreational and commercial opportunities.
North of Trenton, NJ the river is mainly used recreationally. Historical canals and towpaths can be explored, tubing, canoeing, and kayaking (complete with a hot dog lunch!) adventures await, and bird watching is abundant .
As the Delaware River makes its way south of the shallows and boulders of the Trenton riverbed, it becomes tidal and deeper. It is here that waters are more easily navigable and give way to freighters, sailing fleets, and larger pleasure craft. There are numerous opportunities to enjoy: Cruising, sailing, rafting up with friends under a sunshade, fishing in the shallows, or taking a ferry between NJ and PA to experience the Philadelphia and Camden waterfronts.
Boating clubs, marinas and boat ramps line the Delaware River from the C&D canal in Delaware all the way through Bucks County, PA and Burlington County, NJ allowing easy access for an entire season or just a day here and there on the water.
Head towards the Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and you can watch planes take off and land from the comfort of your boat. Looking to get wet?! Enjoy a day on a jet-ski or being pulled behind a powerboat. There is so much to do along the Delaware River and so many places to do it!
